Best of Brass
In the brass band world, the International Staff Band (ISB) of the Salvation Army is one of the two top selling UK bands. When the Peterborough Salvation Army hosted the ISB on the 6th of March, it presented an award to Brian Hillson in recognition of his work as Senior Producer.
During his 35 years working with this prestigious band, he has completed hundreds of recordings of live events and for broadcast. Most notably major record releases which have sold around the Salvation Army world made Brian so well-known and respected.
In his career as a recording engineer and record producer, he has recorded in prominent venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, St Paul’s Cathedral and Birmingham Symphony Hall.
Brian has also worked in top studios such as Abbey Road and Air Lyndhurst. As a result he has been invited to work in America, Australia and across Europe. Brian Hillson is acknowledged as one of the best producers in the world of his specialist field, that of brass ensembles and choral groups.
Reviewing his 45 years in recording, Brian, who is founder of B&H Sound Services, said “I’ve made some award winning CD’s in my time amongst the 1000 or so recordings in which I’ve been involved, but I’m particularly proud to have been associated with the Salvation Army International Staff Band because their music and ministry is so close to my heart”.
